Minister for Trade opens CIML Meeting at Whitesands Hotel Mombasa- 26-10-2009 |
 Minister for trade Amos kimunya consult with the president of International Commitee of Legal Metrology (CIML) Mr. Alan Johnson when the minister officially opened a five days meeting in a Mombasa hotel today.
The International Business Community has been urged to conform to International regulations, that guide National and International trade in goods and services, to enable them access International markets without much technical barriers.While officially opening the 44th meeting of the International Committee of Legal metrology(CIML) yesterday at a Mombasa hotel the Minister added that National domestication of the recommedation through legislation would be a great motivating factor to investors to venture into the Kenyan Market hence creating more jobs.
The Minister urged the delegates to seriously deliberate on Metrology standards for provision of credible measurement for trade, health, safety, environmental protection and law enforcement which he he said would go along way in boasting international way of doing business.The week- long Meeting which is being attended by the President of CIML, Mr Alan Johnson has brought together participants from 57 countries from all over the world.
Hon. Kimunya commended the CIML for the role it plays in protecting trade partners as well as developing internationally acceptable measurement standards hence reducing disputes in trade.The International Organization of Legal Metrology(OIML) systems ensures conformity to International acceptable standards of measurement.
Noting the role of OIML is becoming increasingly important in this age of technology, the Minister noted that the government has ensured that trade instruments meet International specifications for Metrological performance and testing.This, he said has helped our domestic market to operate effectively and increased our competetiveness.
