Kenya and Germany Meet to Enhance Trade Ties
The Principal Secretary for Trade, Regina Ombam, today hosted a German delegation led by Alexander Fierley, the Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Kenya, for talks aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
The delegation included Dr. Christoph Zipfel, Programmes Director at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and Christian Engels, General Manager of AHK Services, Eastern Africa Limited.
Discussions centered on enhancing economic ties between the two nations, with Germany reaffirming its commitment to deepening its engagement in Kenya, where over 120 German companies are already operating. Key highlights of the deliberations included the forthcoming Green Trade Programme, set to launch next year. The initiative will target the export of textile and leather products to the European Union and offer capacity-building support to facilitate the implementation of the Kenya-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
Both initiatives are designed to strengthen Kenya’s trade and export agenda, creating new opportunities for local businesses in European markets.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Kenya–EU Business Forum, scheduled for May 12–13, 2025, in Nairobi. The forum will convene senior policymakers, private sector leaders, innovators, and development partners to explore how digital transformation can enhance trade efficiency, expand market access, and promote sustainable and inclusive growth.
PS Ombam welcomed the German delegation and underscored the importance of fostering stronger matchmaking efforts between Kenyan and German enterprises. She acknowledged the long-standing cordial relations between the two countries and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to advancing trade and economic collaboration with Germany.
