Kenya and India Strengthen Economic Ties Ahead of Joint Trade Committee
The Deputy High Commissioner of India in Kenya Sushi Prasad called on the Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam for talks that centred on enhancing bilateral trade and economic relations.
During the visit the Deputy High Commissioner acknowledged the many thriving Indian businesses in Kenya, highlighting the strong economic ties between the two countries and expressed India’s interest to further deepen the relationship by exploring areas of mutual interests in agriculture, finance, manufacturing, technology, education and health care.
PS Ombam hailed the long standing cordial trade and economic ties between Kenya and India and emphasized the need to strengthen the relationship through trade and investment.
She reiterated the State Department’s commitment in creating a conducive business environment for India investors and foreign investors to spur economic growth and create jobs especially for the youth in line with the government’s Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The PS said Kenya was keen on tapping India’s expertise in sectors like innovation, infrastructure development, hospitality and medicine to drive investment in the country.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming the 10th session of the Kenya-India Joint Trade Committee slated for August 7th-8th 2025 in Nairobi.
