Multi-Agency Team
The multi-agency team assessing the establishment of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) visited Kwale CAIP in Dzombo, Lunga Lunga sub-county in a bid to establish the progress
The team had officers from the State Department for Trade, KOMEX, WRSC, KNTC, KEPROBA, Council of Governors and the Presidential Economic Transformation Secretariat (PETS).
The key activities included site visit and a technical meeting on aggregation and market planning assessment in the operationalization of the CAIP.
The Deputy Governor Josephat Chirema Kombo, County Secretary Sylvia Chidodo, ECM for Trade & Industry, Ali Joto, Chief Officer for Trade, Hassan Ngalaa, Chief Officer for Public Works Salim Zimbu, and other senior county officials welcomed the team.
The deputy governor hailed the State Department and its agencies for their efforts aimed at operationalizing the CAIP. He highlighted cassava, cashew nuts, tomato, green grams, and chili as the key value chains and disclosed plans by the County Government to gazette the CAIP as an Exclusive Economic Zone.
He also underscored the need to improve on key infrastructure like Shimoni port, Dongo Kundu bypass and Lunga Lunga border which he noted were key enablers of the CAIP.
In this project the State Department will provide policy related support by helping activate value chains, identify and structure market access opportunities for value chains actors and create a supportive business environment for the project.
KNTC will offer expertise in wholesale and retail trade locally which help in distributing products more effectively within the local markets.
KEPROBA will facilitate export trade by offering services that help the CAIPs access international markets while the WRS will certify CAIPs for aggregation and collateralization which will allow producers to store goods securely and access financing by using their stored goods as collateral.
KOMEX will link CAIPs to broader markets by providing a trading technology system for easier market access and trading.
The team has assessed CAIPs in Migori, Machakos,Homabay, Kisii, Busia, Bungoma, Uasin Gishu, Embu, Kirinyaga, Machakos, and Garissa. Next will be Wajir and Meru.
