Senegal  Defence Delegation Visits the State Department for Trade

A delegation from the Senegal Defence Institute’s War College today visited the State Department for Trade to benchmark best practices on how trade, economic growth, and national security interconnect.

The delegation, led by the Director General of the War College, Brigadier General Abdou Latif Kamara, was received by the Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam. 

PS Ombam hailed the visit as a step toward strengthening relations between the two countries, especially on matters related to trade.

The visit provided both sides an opportunity to review Kenya’s trade systems and explore ways to grow Kenya-Senegal trade relations, particularly by leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to open new markets between East and West Africa.

Discussions also covered current trade challenges, including language barriers, limited market data, and transport logistics between the two countries.

Brigadier Kamara noted the growing link between economic stability and defence. He said the visit would help inform Senegal’s approach to integrating trade policy into national security planning.

He added that the engagement offered valuable insights into economic defence highlighting that strong supply chains are as critical to national security as military readiness.
