PS Ombam Calls on Women to Take Lead in Export Trade
The Principal Secretary for Trade Regina Ombam has urged women to take a leading role in export business and fully leverage opportunities available in regional, continental and international markets.
Speaking at the inaugural Women in Export Trade Forum held in Nairobi, the PS emphasized the importance of empowering women entrepreneurs to actively participate in international trade and expand their presence in export markets.
“The State Department for Trade remains committed to supporting women through targeted initiatives aimed at strengthening their capacity to compete globally,”said the PS.
Ombam said the department will support women entrepreneurs by providing information on available export opportunities, guiding them on international market requirements and standards and equipping them with the necessary skills to ensure their products and services meet global competitiveness standards.
Floice Mukabana, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA), noted that supporting women exporters remains key to strengthening Kenya’s competitiveness in global markets.
She said the agency plans to expand export readiness training, provide market intelligence and support participation in international trade fairs to help women-led businesses scale up and access new markets.
Also present at the forum were Lucy Komen,acting Chief Executive Officer of the Warehouse Receipt System Council (WRSC) and Esther Ngari,Managing Director of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)
