State Department for Trade Holds Consultative Meeting to Finalize on Draft Trade Bill,2022.

The State Department for Trade held an internal consultative meeting to discuss the Draft Trade Development Bill 2022,which is aimed at establishing a comprehensive legal, institutional, and regulatory framework for domestic and international trade in Kenya.

The bill is expected to address long-standing gaps in the trade sector and support the country's broader economic transformation agenda.

Acting Secretary for Trade Michael Mandu speaking when he officiated the meeting in Nairobi emphasized the critical role trade plays in Kenya's economy.

The trade sector offers significant market opportunities for agricultural, industrial, and service goods, noted Mandu.

Among its objectives the bill promotes policy coherence, strengthens private sector participation, and ensures alignment with constitutional and policy mandates.

It also provides a framework for the development, integration, review, and reporting of national trade policy implementation.

The draft bill  is expected to create a structured and supportive environment for trade, catalyzing inclusive economic growth and reinforcing Kenyas competitive position in regional and global markets.
